When we feel safe – our bodies are at peace and function as intended. Everything ticks over – flows as it was designed to. The gut and all systems of circulation, of elimination and of life – work. Bodies work on automatic . When under attack – they send all the blood and energy to the way to escape. Not to digest. That system shuts off, as we need to move – to fight – or to flee. If we freeze – we get into severe trouble. When we are no longer under threat, but we still feel as though we are: if survival is not assumed, and if we feel the need to be to stay on alert – we may not be able to undo this. Even when the threat really has left – the residue may be running – and may not cease. Not shutting off the panic is not helpful. We now have different trouble.
